'Patanjali's Yoga' and Raja Yoga - as the 'Supreme Goal'?

Raja Yoga is often considered to be equivalent to 'Patanjali's Yoga' (and associated with the dualist Samkhya philosophy).

However, in some ancient Yoga texts the term 'Raja Yoga' was used to designate not a separate tradition or system of Yoga, but the final stage or goal of the practice.

In this sense, 'Raja Yoga' is the Yoga of Supreme Realization ('Raja' meaning Royal), designating the ultimate Realization that arises from having achieved mastery in the necessary disciplines..
